Faint Holographic Galaxy Nails

I’m finally able to post up to date nails because these don’t exactly have an expiration date like holiday themed nails. Actually, these were the nails I wore for New Year’s. They were originally inspired by Doctor Who because I was going to add a red bow towards the cuticle (to represent the 11th Doctor), but decided against it. Some other time, my dear. Some other time.

I used China Glaze – When Stars Collide for the base and sponged on China Glaze – Get Outta My Space, Cosmic Dust, Don’t be a Luna-tic, Take a Trek, Funky Fingers – Jester, NYC – White Tip, and Rimmel London – Silver Bullet. I also used KleanColor – Holo Chrome and Savvy – Touch of Glitter to accentuate some areas. I added some holographic star glitters and made some stars using a white striper. I added a coat of China Glaze – Fairy Dust over it all.

These nails were lots of fun an rather subtle. Next time I’ll use more white so it’s a little more visible.

Oz: The Great and Powerful Inspired Nails: Flying Creature

Hello all! Is anyone else super excited for the new Oz movie? I sure am! Only one more week!

The little flying creature that resembles a sea monkey inspired my nails this week. I think he’s adorable, but everyone else I talked to begs to differ. Unfortunately, the lighting wasn’t agreeing with me today, so the quality of the pictures isn’t too great :(

For my blue base I used Sally Hansen – Blew Me Away! then used Savvy – Mango for the base of the creature. I created a few highlights using L'Oréal – Pink Me Up!. I mixed some Pink Me Up! with black in order to create some shadows, along with the mouth. I used black and white polish to make the eyes.

I used Rimmel London – French Rose for my french base for the rest of my nails. I made a black french tip using Wet n Wild – Black Crème.

New York Color–Peach Sparkle

I should have posted these pictures earlier because Peach Sparkle is a limited edition polish- So, I hope if you want it you will be able to get it!

Peach Sparkle looked pretty sheer in the bottle, so I put it over Savvy – Mango.

In order to see the shimmer, you basically have to be in the right light, at the right angle. However, I think it looks pretty even when it isn’t in the right light or the right angle.

It is supposed to be a dupe for Nars – Orgasm. I didn’t know that when I picked it up. I just bought it because I thought it was pretty, but knowing that is is a dupe for a pricey polish is just (peach) icing on the (mango) cake!

I also took a picture of the bottles together so you can see how similar they are.

While I used Peach Sparkle with Mango, I believe it is a buildable polish if you don’t have a polish very similar :)

New York Color-Lavender Cupcake, New York Color-249B & Orly-Oui, Savvy-Gotcha Grape

Day 6 of the 31 Day Challenge- while I thought it was going to be the most fun of the challenges so far, I was wrong. COMPLETELY WRONG! Today was awful!
102_2845
This is my final result of today’s challenge. I used New York Color’s Lavender Cupcake.
102_2848
My excuse for the photos being blurry is that it had just stopped raining, and it was getting late.
Before I had a decent result today, I first had on Savvy’s Gotcha Grape.
102_2825
It is a very pretty polish, but I didn’t have time to take pictures today before leaving the house (while they were tacky). They were smudged and the tips looked pretty bad once I got home
102_2826
(the little dots on my nails are raindrops. It began to sprinkle once I started taking pictures)
Next up is the result of me trying to create a smudge-free purple manicure:

102_2828
This is New York Color’s 249B. While, these nails are smudge free, they are not purple. I thought for some reason that this looked purple in the bottle. After realizing it was burgundy, I thought I could try putting a purple polish over it to make it actually look purple. I chose Orly’s Oui…
102_2836
…and again, it proved to be a bad choice. (please excuse me not cleaning up my cuticles!) At this point, it was actually raining, so these pictures were taken underneath my deck.
Please tell me that I am not the only one who has bad nail days! Today was just a mess. I hope tomorrow ends up nicely, especially because the challenge is black and white. I don’t really have any room for error with black, considering it usually turns my cuticles black once I take it off!

Savvy-Mango & Sally Hansen-Set The Stage

I want to get rid of a few pictures I’ve had on tile for a while before I post anything new (with my newly shorter nails). This post features Femme Couture Savvy’s Mango and Sally Hansen’s Set The Stage.

102_2428

These pictures don’t do much justice to Mango. Even when I bought it I wasn’t super crazy for it, but it truly is a beautiful polish!

102_2420

I put one coat of Sally Hansen’s Set The Stage on my ring finger. I believe that the two polishes make a perfect match.

I’ve been considering doing more swatch related posts. What do you think? Was this a good start?

Nerdy Nails

Who is up for some fun chemistry nails? They are very colorful and attention grabbing(..of course I didn’t give anyone the chance to notice them, since I was so excited about them that I waved them in everyone’s face Smile ).

102_2128

Potassium is green (Wet n Wild – Jade), Copper, gold, silver, and mercury are purple (Savvy – Gotcha Grape), lead and tin are blue (Rimmel – Green with Envy), nitrogen and hydrogen are white (Orly – Au Champagne), and oxygen is magenta (New York Color 239).

102_2120102_2119

I love how bright they are compared to what I have been wearing. It makes me miss summer!

102_2111102_2123

If you were to recreate this nail design, you could use your favorite elements and the colors of your choice.

102_2130

I’m highly considering making a series of “Nerdy Nails,” so don’t be surprised when it comes! Actually, you can probably expect some next week!

Bargain Shopping!

102_2080102_2082
I went to Sally’s with only the intention on finding a few Finger Paints Special Effects, but only found two. With my luck, they were the same (Flashy). I guess that’s good though, since it made the decision easy (I didn’t want to buy all of them…Okay, I did want to have all of them; I just didn’t want to buy all of them since I’ve been trying to save money). On the plus side, I checked out their clearance rack and found one of Orly’s Stone Cold. I guess they are also getting rid of all their Savvy polishes too since they were all on the rack as well. There were a lot to pick from, but I decided on just two: Touch of Glitter and Cotcha Grape.

I also went to Dollar Tree, trying to find some drawer liners. I couldn’t just pass the beauty isle! I’m always curious to see what they get in. I found this pack of nail accessories. I didn’t really need the rhinestones; I bought it for the glitter and stars.
102_2090102_2092
Instructions were included, but I already know how to do everything. I suppose a beginner might need them though. It’s actually a great starter kit for nail art. I usually order my nail accessories online for cheap, but I couldn't pass this up!
