Hamlet Nail Art

I’m a little bummed Valentine’s day is over because now I can’t cop out and do hearts on my nails when I’m not feeling very creative. Plus, I was really getting into the pinks and reds.

My nails for the week were inspired by Hamlet by William Shakespeare. It was a pretty good book. I mean, it must have been good enough to put on my nails, right?

I wanted a very muted base color, so I used OPI – Glints of Glinda. I used three coats, and it is still sheer enough that you can see my visible nail line, but I've gotten over the compulsive need for opaque polishes. Also, I think it fits these nails very well.

I used acrylic paint to add all of the flowers and skull. The skull is obviously Yorick’s, and is a very symbolic piece of the work. The pearl represents the pearl in the wine at the fencing match. The flowers are all of those that Ophelia handed to everyone, and the crown is pretty self explanatory.

Sherlock Season 3, Ep. 1 Nail Art

To show my love for Sherlock, I decided to do my nails for the third season. I had already watched episode one when I did these nails, so I took some inspiration from John’s moustache and Sherlock’s not-so-permanent moustache.

I went off of these nails and post by Nail Job. I don’t like the way my John nail came out, but I was ready to sleep, so I went with it.

 DSCN3687

I hardly ever use my tripod for photos of both of my hands, but I really should because I think this may look a little more professional :)

I used OPI – Alpine Snow for my white index fingers and Forever 21 – Lavender for the rest. The glitter is China Glaze – Your Present Required.

I must say that I love Your Present Required! It is the only Holiglaze polish I picked up this year. Actually, I never intended on buying it, but I saw so many beautiful swatches that I knew I had to have it. It was the only one left in the store when I was there, so you can bet I snagged it up!

DSCN3680

The rest of the features are done with nail polish, but there were so many used that it’d be crazy to list, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

DSCN3686

Do you watch Sherlock? Do you have any polishes you never intended on purchasing until some other pesky nail blogger decided to make you swoon?

Thanks for reading!

Faint Holographic Galaxy Nails

I’m finally able to post up to date nails because these don’t exactly have an expiration date like holiday themed nails. Actually, these were the nails I wore for New Year’s. They were originally inspired by Doctor Who because I was going to add a red bow towards the cuticle (to represent the 11th Doctor), but decided against it. Some other time, my dear. Some other time.

DSCN3654

I used China Glaze – When Stars Collide for the base and sponged on China Glaze – Get Outta My Space, Cosmic Dust, Don’t be a Luna-tic, Take a Trek, Funky Fingers – Jester, NYC – White Tip, and Rimmel London – Silver Bullet. I also used KleanColor – Holo Chrome and Savvy – Touch of Glitter to accentuate some areas. I added some holographic star glitters and made some stars using a white striper. I added a coat of China Glaze – Fairy Dust over it all.

DSCN3655

These nails were lots of fun an rather subtle. Next time I’ll use more white so it’s a little more visible.

Thanks for reading! I hope everyone’s doing well :)

Portal Nail Art

I’m not sure how many of you know this, but I go to high school for half of a day, then go to a vocational-technical school for the other half. I go for cosmetology (shocker, right?) and today was the first day of tech. I loved it last year, and now that I’m a senior, I know what to expect and the year is basically a review for me :) Anyhow… everyone wanted to see my nails and before I let them see, I started with, “My brother convinced me to play a video game, and my nails were inspired by it.” Nobody actually knew the game except my friend who demanded a picture to show his friend who is also into the game.

My top coat was goopy and I didn’t feel like adding thinner to it, so it didn’t go on very smoothly and left some bubbles. Grr.

The quality of the photos below are pretty poor, so I decided to put more than the usual amount in, in hopes that it gives you a better image of the theme.

Now, I should explain them:
Index fingers: Companion cube (a cube that you use for an entire level. It will never threaten to stab you.)
Middle fingers: the logo
Ring fingers: two portals
My right pinky: “The cake is a lie.” (a sentence that is written over and over in ‘secret’ ‘rooms’)
My left pinky: the cake that is a lie (or is it?)

I hope you all enjoyed my Portal nails!

Have you played Portal? Have you done video game nails?

Snapchat Nail Art

Today I bring you Snapchat nails!! I was really excited to do them and hopefully you’re all excited to see them! If you use Snapchat I’m sure you’ll like them!
DSCN2934
For my index finger I used a base of Julie G – Dream in Pretty, and used a white Art Club striper to make the camera image, then used a dotting tool to create the lens. For my ring finger, I used a base of Sally Hansen – Mellow Yellow, and a black Stripe Rite striper to create the outline of the Snapchat mascot, then filled it in with the white Art Club striper. for my middle and pinky fingers, I used a base of New York Color – French White Tip, then used a red Lacura  polish and detail brush to make the arrow and box.

And this HAD to be done:photo (4)
Hahahahahaha!
Thanks for reading! Do you use Snapchat? Do you ever Snapchat your nails to anyone?

The Great Gatsby Inspired Nail Art

Hello beauts. Long time no write? My apologies. I’m planning on doing a hiatus post along with my thoughts and dilemmas in the future.

Until then, I have a lot of catching up to do. I would really like to post my nails in chronological order, but I decided to post my Gatsby nails first since it’s still pretty recent, with the movie still being in theatres.

DSCN2572

I read The Great Gatsby a while back, and once I saw that there was a new Gatsby movie coming out, I was super ecstatic. Naturally, I wanted matching nails to go see it, so I decided to use the Jay Gatsby logo from the movie and the notable eyes of Dr. TJ Eckleburg.DSCN2578

For my index finger, I used Sally Hansen – Blew Me Away! as my base, and lightly sponged Pure Ice – French Kiss around. I then used a gold, black, and white Stripe Rite Striper to create all of the details. I used a mix of Blew Me Away! and French Kiss to make the pupils.

For my ring finger, I used a base of Wet n Wild – Black Crème and used a gold Stripe Rite Striper to make the logo.

For my non-accent nails, I used Wet n Wild – Black Crème for my base and created a gradient, using a gold glitter by Cosmetic Arts, e.l.f. – Golden Goddess, and an Art Deco – Gold Glitter striper.

DSCN2580

I don’t quite remember how to post. So, uh, have a nice day :) Oh, and thanks for sticking with me regardless of my pathetic attempt at blogging for the past few months :)

Geometric Cube Nail Art

I’ve been falling behind on posting; these nails are from last week. I actually don’t feel like posting today, but am forcing myself, considering I know I won’t feel like next weekend either. I won’t be home much next weekend, but I have already planned out how I’m doing my nails.

DSCN2061

DSCN2057

For my base, I used New York Color – West Village, then sponged Maybelline – Purple Icon on my tips. To create my cubes I made squares using Revlon – Smoldering, then made the sides using Wet n Wild – Gray’s Anatomy. To finish it off, I used a white Stripe Rite striper to outline my cubes.

Doctor Who Inspired Nails

My friend and I decided to have a Doctor Who day, so I needed some matching nails, right? I’ll take any excuse for themed nails.

DSCN1747 DSCN1732

I decided to go for the logo on my ring fingers, and for the rest of my nails I made the 4th Doctor’s scarf (which is a pretty sick scarf, if you ask me!). I tried to make it as if it was hanging there freely, so that’s why it doesn’t look like the perfect french tip.

DSCN1746

For my french base, I used OPI – So Many Clowns… So Little Time, and a combination of polishes for the scarf. As for my ring finger- I first applied Finger Paints – Gallery Glam, followed by one coat of Sally Hansen – Laser. I then painted the logo on with a metallic silver polish. I placed a rhinestone on top to represent the light, then made it even better by putting some glow-in-the-dark polish on top of the rhinestone.

Hope you enjoyed!

Thor Nail Art

I like nerdy things, if anyone couldn’t tell from previous posts. I couldn’t decide what character to paint on my nails- there are so many good ones! I ultimately went with Thor, but there were quite a few runner ups! I actually ended up painted two on my friend’s nails, so no hurt feeling!

DSCN1401

DSCN1398

Well, I guess there was some hurt feelings; some of my nails didn’t meet my expectations. First of all, believe it or not, the helmet was rather hard and confusing, and I wish I would have filled it in better. Second, the hammer looks a little to cartoon-y for me (plus I bumped it while wet).

DSCN1406

As most of you have probably noted, I typically only do my nails once a week, so I probably won’t be posting tomorrow. With that said, tomorrow is Thanksgiving, which means we should all take time to be thankful for what we have, right?

Well, sort of. What I am not appreciative of is being lied to; Thanksgiving is a lie.

Other than that, I really want to thank all of you. I love finding wonderful comments on my blog, new readers, and making new virtual friends. I truly don’t know what the internet would be like if there weren’t nice people here (but lets admit it- there are a bunch of rude people, too :( ). I’m just glad I’ve met some of the nice people! Thank you!

Nerdy Nails–Second Installment

I am not happy with the result. I think it may be the color, or perhaps I wasn’t feeling geeky…

The lighting was bad when I finished them:

102_2161

If you wanted to make punctuation nails you could use whatever punctuation/symbols you wanted. I used: ; : ) ( , / ! ? . -

102_2168

I used a copper color nail polish for the base and a very dark brown  for the punctuation (it looks black in the picture). The copper color used was Copper Penny from Relvon:

Nerdy Nails

Who is up for some fun chemistry nails? They are very colorful and attention grabbing(..of course I didn’t give anyone the chance to notice them, since I was so excited about them that I waved them in everyone’s face Smile ).

102_2128

Potassium is green (Wet n Wild – Jade), Copper, gold, silver, and mercury are purple (Savvy – Gotcha Grape), lead and tin are blue (Rimmel – Green with Envy), nitrogen and hydrogen are white (Orly – Au Champagne), and oxygen is magenta (New York Color 239).

102_2120102_2119

I love how bright they are compared to what I have been wearing. It makes me miss summer!

102_2111102_2123

If you were to recreate this nail design, you could use your favorite elements and the colors of your choice.

102_2130

I’m highly considering making a series of “Nerdy Nails,” so don’t be surprised when it comes! Actually, you can probably expect some next week!
